Emergency Medical Responder

Professional level courses are available for high-risk or remote industrial locations. For remote or hazardous locations, we offer the Emergency Medical Responder (Level "B" Safety Attendant) Course, the bridge between Standard First Aid and EMT training.

Requiring Industrial First Aid or Standard First Aid and CPR "C" as a pre-requisite, this 60-hour course teaches advanced life-saving techniques using professional safety and medical equipment.

 This course meets or exceeds the requirements as established by Occupational Health & Safety in Saskatchewan as the Class "B" Safety Attendant.

 Course topics include:

  • Roles and overview of the EMS System

  • Phases of Emergency Medical care

  • Training in the use of First Aid equipment

  • Medico-legal aspects of First Aid training

  • Anatomy & Physiology appropriate to the course

  • Primary & Secondary patient surveys

  • Vital signs monitoring and assessment

  •  Wound and bleeding management

  • Pathogen barrier devices

  • Airway management and use of appropriate equipment, including oxygen therapy equipment

  • Oropharyngeal airway use

  • Assessment and treatment of common medical emergencies

  • Assessment and treatment of Shock

  • Trauma management to the head, neck, spine, chest, abdomen and pelvis

  • Extremity injuries

  • Environmental Emergencies

  • Crisis Intervention and psychological intervention and support

  • Scene management and triage skills

  • Burn treatment and management

  • Obstetrical treatment of emergency childbirth and post-partum hemorrhage

  • Recognition and treatment of drug related disorders

  • Abdominal injury and disorder treatment

  • Basic extrication from the area of immediate danger

  • Record keeping and liability protection from subsequent actions

  • Understanding and familiarity of the relevant provisions of Occupational Health & Safety Regulations

The course is extensive, covering all aspects of advanced emergency first aid. Once certified, the students will be qualified to provide advanced levels of emergency care at industrial sites designated as high-risk locations, and in remote settings.

All textbooks, workbooks and training materials are also provided.

This course has been very well received. The level of training provided is consistent with professional certification and provides students the confidence to assist in medical emergencies.

Not included is the medical equipment package.
