Accident Investigations

The Accident Investigators Course is designed to provide course candidates with a general overview and basic skills to investigate or assist in the investigation of simple motor vehicle collisions and industrial accidents. For a complete Incident Investigation course for workplaces, click here.

The course is intended for:

  • Site Safety Officers

  • Security and Protective Officers

  • Occupational Health & Safety Officers and

  • Vehicle Insurance Accident Adjusters

  • Public and Private Investigators.

  • Sequence of events

  • Roadway and workplace evidence

  • Field sketches

  • Basic photography

  • Witnesses interviews

  • Scene measurement

  • Vehicle investigations

  • Vehicle interior concerns (occupant kinematics)

  • Vehicle exterior examinations

  • Overview of velocity determination formulas

  • Dangerous driving / speed

  • Practicum

The course consists of one day of classroom presentations followed by one day of practicum held in a suitable parking lot or industrial worksite. A basic examination of skid patterns, vehicle velocity determination and an examination of vehicle damage patterns will be performed during the practicum. A few in-class and take-home assignments are required.

Industrial Training & Design will issue a Certificate of Completion at the end of the course. An extensive written test will be held.
